In one of the best rookie wide receiver classes in recent history, No. 6 overall pick Malik Nabers made a name for himself early with the New York Giants. Through the first four weeks of the 2024 NFL season, Nabers led the league in targets (52) and receptions (35) while ranking second in receiving yards (386).

But Nabers missed the Giants’ 20-15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 4 due to a concussion. He missed the Giants’ 29-20 road win over Seattle in Week 5 and did not travel with the team.

It’s the first significant playing time he’s missed since his freshman year at LSU. Here’s the latest on the Giants’ top rookie ahead of New York’s first Sunday Night Football game of the season.

Nabers is out for Week 6 against Cincinnati. Giants coach Brian Daboll announced he will miss “Sunday Night Football” before Friday’s practice.

Daboll told reporters Thursday that Nabers was “in the same place he was yesterday.” He further said that it would be difficult for Nabers to play on Sunday if he did not train tomorrow (Friday).

The next step for him is to practice non-contact (restricted practice) before receiving medical clearance from the team’s medical staff and an independent neurologist.

This season it is common for players to miss at least one game due to a concussion. It’s questionable whether Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith will return this week after suffering a concussion in Week 3 that sidelined him for one game and the bye week.

When was Malik Nabers injured?

Nabers’ injury occurred on September 26 during the Giants’ “Thursday Night Football” loss to the Cowboys.

As of Friday, Nabers isn’t the only Giants wide receiver on the injury report. Bryce Ford-Wheaton also missed Thursday’s practice with a shoulder injury. Here’s what the rest of New York’s depth looks like at this position:

The Giants also signed Kearis Jackson and Isaiah Hodgins to the practice squad. New York is also dealing with an injury to starting running back Devin Singletary, who also missed Week 5 against Seattle. In his place, rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. made the start.
