Supporters prepare for Donald Trump’s campaign stop in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Former President Donald Trump has made several stops in Arizona recently for his 2024 presidential campaign and is back in the Valley on Thursday.

Trump will speak at Mullett Arena on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m

The former president and his supporters are hoping to win Arizona after losing to President Joe Biden in 2020.

A woman waiting to enter the venue Thursday morning said it was her first time traveling from Casa Grande to a Trump rally.

“He’s just the most dynamic and I just think that’s great,” she said.

Chuck Coughlin, president of HighGround Inc., said he expects more candidate visits before the Nov. 5 general election because the Arizona races are so close. He said younger voter turnout is expected.

“Younger is a huge supporter of (Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala) Harris, and Trump has struggled with that, that constituency, but if they show up in larger proportions, that’s a tipping point, that’s going to change the outcome of the election,” Coughlin said.

Thursday won’t be Trump’s last visit to the Valley before Election Day. He is scheduled to appear at an event in Glendale on Halloween alongside well-known conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson.

Ahead of Trump’s rally in Tempe, James Martin, the Harris campaign’s Arizona coordinated campaign manager, released the following statement:

“Those who know Donald Trump best are sounding the alarm about the threat he poses to the security and future of our country and our democracy – which is why historic numbers of Arizona Republicans and Independents are putting country over party and the vice president supported.” Harris. Trump wants unchecked power, and it’s up to Arizona voters to decide whether to give him that power.”
