Peppa Pig Theme Park Closes; Disney World opens

As Hurricane Helene hits Florida, the state’s theme parks are responding.

Peppa Pig Theme Park Florida announced it would be closing its doors on Friday, September 27, after the storm damaged the preschool attractions.

“The safety and comfort of our guests and employees is our top priority. Guests who already have tickets are encouraged to check the Rainy Day Promise on our website,” the park told visitors.

Hurricane Helene produced winds of up to 140 miles per hour and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned more deaths were likely after a driver was killed by debris overnight.

The hurricane, one of the strongest ever to hit the United States, was downgraded to a tropical storm Friday morning as it moved inland.

Other major theme parks in Florida were open as usual Friday, including Walt Disney World Resort. Drew Smith, a fan of the Disney parks, said attendance was low due to the storm.

On Thursday, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon closed while the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party was canceled.

Universal Orlando Resort said it was welcoming guests after Thursday’s storm closed certain attractions, including Universal Volcano Bay.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Helene and we are grateful for the hard work of our team members during this time,” the resort said.

SeaWorld Orlando closed at 2 p.m. Thursday but was expected to reopen Friday. Busch Gardens Tampa, Adventure Island and Aquatica Orlando are expected to welcome visitors after closing Thursday.

The Legoland Florida Resort was operating normally on Thursday.
