Deshaun Watson was booed by Browns fans before playing against the Bengals

Deshaun Watson’s horrifically poor 2024 season was widely criticized in the NFL world. Now he’s hearing it from his hometown fans too.

Before the Cleveland Browns’ Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Watson was greeted with loud boos from Browns fans during his introduction at Huntington Bank Field. To make matters worse for the beleaguered quarterback, the crowd went wild for Nick Chubb right afterward.

Even for the NFL’s most disappointing players, it’s rare to get such loud boos at home. Especially in Cleveland, whose sordid football history has led hometown fans to appreciate even the worst players. But Watson is so bad that he gets special treatment.

Since starting Sunday, the quarterback has thrown for 1,020 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions in six starts. The Browns have lost five of their six games with Watson at center, and head coach Kevin Stefanski is bombarded weekly with questions about whether and when he will bench the struggling signal-caller. He sticks to the company line that Watson gives the team the best chance to win every week.

Browns fans obviously disagree.
