76ers reveal Paul George’s injury status against Bucks

Will Paul George make his official Philadelphia 76ers debut against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday?

On Tuesday, the Sixers listed George as out for the matchup.

The debut date of the 34-year-old nine-time NBA All-Star is currently unclear.

Luckily for the Sixers, with the 2024-2025 roster, they weren’t left completely in the dark about what George looks like on the court. When they visited the Minnesota Timberwolves a few weeks ago, George made his debut by starting in a lineup without Joel Embiid.

While George played the next game, he returned to the floor a few nights later to face the Atlanta Hawks. His night ended much earlier than expected and resulted in George having an MRI scan of his knee the next day.

The Sixers ruled George out in the second quarter with a hyperextended knee. The MRI results were ideal and showed no structural damage. Still, George’s playing status for Wednesday’s game was immediately called into question as the Sixers imposed a one-week recovery period on him.

George would miss the last two preseason games. He also stayed away from the field as the Sixers opened their final offseason workout on Monday. At that point, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse noted that George needed to go through his reevaluation before the team decided to address a possible game status against the Bucks.

The Sixers say George has recovered “well” from his setback. He is expected to take part in on-field activities throughout the week. Although George will miss the opener, he could be available later in the week after further evaluation, according to a team official.

The Sixers invested heavily in George this offseason. With plenty of cap space left in free agency, the Sixers were poised to target the Los Angeles Clippers forward after he declined his player option for next season. George considered other avenues but was traded when he was traded to the 76ers.

An All-Star trio of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and George is expected to be one of the strongest groups of star teammates in the NBA. They haven’t had a chance to share the courtroom together yet.
